CAIRO – 1 November 2018: The Egyptian Air Force managed to destroy 25 wheel-drive vehicles loaded with weapons and smuggled goods, while attempting to cross the country's western borders, an army statement read.

The forces also targeted a number of hideouts, and could subsequently eliminate eight takfiris in North and Central Sinai.

The recent efforts announced on Thursday, Nov.1, come as part of a military offensive dubbed "Comprehensive Operation – Sinai 2018," carried out by the army and police forces, with the aim of eliminating terrorist elements, after the numerous terror attacks that have hit the country following ousting Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The Egyptian army also confirmed the elimination of 10 extremely dangerous takfiris in Arish, and the arrest of 129 wanted suspects. The statement also announced seizing three automatic rifles, two rifle cartridges, and two explosive devices.



Foiling attempts to obstruct the counter-terrorism efforts, the military engineers could detect and neutralize 141 explosive devices that were planted to target the forces. The forces also managed to seize a quantity of materials used in the manufacture of IEDs, besides quantities of highly explosive TNT.

Furthermore, the forces managed to destroy 147 hideouts, stores and trenches in North and Central Sinai. Inside the destroyed facilities, the army could find weapons, ammunition, in addition to books and tapes promoting takfiri ideology. The forces also seized 16 cars and 35 motorcycles without plates.

In the same context, the border guards managed to seize 3368 Kg of cannabis (hashish), 365 kg of hemp, 37 kg of opium, 1.5 million prohibited drug tablets, and five devices used for metal detection.

The forces could also foil illegal immigration attempts of 1,383 people of different nationalities.
