A number of automatic rifles, explosive materials and devices along with a map of Assiut governorate were found with the terrorists.

Egypt has been struggling for years to contain terrorist activities in the country and especially in Sinai. Several military operations have been carried out by the army and police forces, killing hundreds of militants and building a buffer zone along the border with Gaza, so that Egyptian authorities can curb the flow of militants and weapons infiltrating through underground tunnels.

In February 2018, and under the title "Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018", Egypt's Armed Forces launched a comprehensive military operation targeting the hotbeds of terrorists in Northern and Central Sinai.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi authorized the army chief of staff to use “brutal force” against terrorism. Armed Forces spokesman Tamer al-Rifai said on Tuesday, Oct.16 that life in North Sinai has become normal.

In an interview with Saudi-owned channel Al-Arabiya, Rifai said that the Comprehensive Military Operation Sinai 2018 has fulfilled most of its targets. “Terrorist leaders were killed and facilities were destroyed,” Rifai stated.
