CAIRO – 27 May 2017: Egyptian Christians pay the price of “their alliance with the Egyptian regime,” Member of the Muslim Brotherhood Ahmed el-Moghir said in a controversial Facebook post Friday.

According to Moghir, who fled Egypt after the 2013 ousting of President Mohamed Morsi and whose current whereabouts is not known, Egyptian Christians have only one solution: to take a step back for “reconciliation with Muslims, or their blood will be shed like rivers and no one will care about them.”

Sectarian violence spread like wildfire across Egypt after the military’s removal of Morsi, and needless to say that there is a general sentiment among the Brotherhood supporters that the ousting would not have been possible without the Christian community’s support.

Moghir, who has been sentenced in absentia over terrorism charges, claimed that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi wants to turn Egypt into either a “Christian or an atheist state.”

The post has received little response on Facebook, but local newspapers reported it as evidence that the Muslim Brotherhood is implicated in the Friday attack that shot 28 Copts dead in Upper Egypt’s Minya.
