CAIRO - 25 September 2018: Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit met on Monday with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in New York.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly, tackled the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the repercussions of a US decision to cut off funding for UN refugee agency UNRWA, said the spokesman for the AL chief Mahmoud Afifi.

Abul-Gheit thanked the Norwegian government for its supportive stance of the legitimate rights of Palestinians and its keenness to provide aid for UNRWA.

He further praised the pivotal role played by the Norwegian government to mobilize international support to cover the UNRWA budget deficit.

Solberg, for her part, stressed that her country will continue to support the Palestinian cause and UNRWA.

She also expressed hope that Arab countries would support her country’s bid to get the UN Security Council membership.
