CAIRO - 23 September 2018: A Yemeni in New York joined the Egyptian community in welcoming President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in the city Sunday to attend the UN General Assembly, motivated by Egypt’s role in supporting Yemenis against Houthis.

“You should be grateful that you have a president like Sisi. He protected your country from chaos, and it ultimately passed the events of the Arab Spring in 2011 safe and sound,” the Yemeni man, Mohamed Alawi, told al-Madina TV channel.

Alawi, head of the Yemeni Association Ma’ona for Human Rights and Immigration, expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s support for his country during the Yemeni revolution in 1962 and today.

Since 2011, Yemen has been in turmoil after it joined Tunisia and Egypt in protests demanding the ousters of their regimes. Eventually, Houthis, accused of receiving support from Iran, has been fighting for power in the poor country, begetting military intervention from Saudi Arabia.
