CAIRO – 23 September 2018: Egypt condemned a terror attack that targeted a military parade in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz, killing 29 people and injuring more than 50 others, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement.

The statement extended Egypt’s sincere condolences to the families of the victims and its hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Egypt also called for boosting the international efforts to combat the phenomenon of terrorism and drain its support resources, the statement added.

According to Ghulam Reza Shariati, governor of Khuzestan province, Gunmen opened fire on people at Jerusalem's Ahwaz Street during a parade Saturday which was held on the occasion of Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran in the 1980s.

"Despite the strong attack on the position of the officials, none of them were hurt because of the rapid reaction of the security forces," Shariati added.

"According to initial reports, four attackers were involved; two of them were killed, and two were arrested, where one of them was wounded," Shariati said.
