CAIRO - 21 September 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi offered his condolences on the death of the Vietnamese President

, in a cable sent to the Vietnamese Government on Friday.

“The President expressed his sincere condolences to the Vietnamese people for the death of President Quang, who made significant contributions to develop and strengthen the Egyptian-Vietnamese relations," said presidency’s spokesperson Bassam Radi in official statement Friday.

Vietnam's state media reported the death of President Quang, a former chief of internal security who became one of the most high-profile leaders in the communist-ruled country, at the age of 61 on Friday, after an illness.

Quang visited Egypt last August with his wife, in an effort to enhance relations between Egypt and Vietnam, exchange experiences and boost cooperation in economy, trade and investment, seeking collaboration opportunities in agriculture, culture and tourism. He met with Sisi, where the two presidents discussed the expansion of joint cooperation in various fields, and increasing the volume of trade and investment exchange.
