CAIRO – 19 September 2018: “Dairab Negm’s case which resulted in the death of three citizens undergoing dialysis in Sharqia was referred to the Public Prosecution to take the legal procedures,” said Health Minister Hala Zayed Wednesday during the inauguration of Menoufia Military Hospital.

Zayed added that the ministry does not accept any human or non-human errors in the provision of medical services.

On September 16, the prosecution of Sharqia's Zagazig ordered the detention of 15 people working in a public hospital.

In the same context, Egypt's prime minister and health minister affirmed that those responsible for the incident will be severely punished.

The prime minister also affirmed that the authorities will deal assertively with those found guilty by the investigations, adding that the government will not allow similar incidents to take place in the future.

Health Minister Zayed also affirmed taking the legal measures against those behind the incident. Although nobody has been officially accused yet, Zayed revealed further critical details about the probable cause of the victims' death.

Zayed indirectly accused the company responsible for the maintenance of the dialysis unit inside the hospital, saying that this company has carried out maintenance for six months. However, this time, complications took place directly after the maintenance of the unit.

Zayed also added during her speech that the most important things that plague the Egyptian families are the waiting lists, which comprise more than 18,000 cases. She pointed out that the Central Bank pumped LE 980 million in support of the waiting lists.

In light of the efforts to eliminate virus C, Zayed said in her speech that Egypt will launch the "largest medical campaign in the world" in October to detect Hepatitis C virus and treat 50 million citizens upon President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s orders.

The medical campaign will start on October 1 and will run for two months in nine governorates.

President Sisi inaugurated Wednesday the Military Hospital in Menoufia to serve both civilians and military personnel, according to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Rady’s statement added that the hospital includes state-of-the-art devices as well as a building for outpatient clinics. The hospital is considered the latest medical service offered to the residents of Delta governorates.

The president also inaugurated other development projects via video-conference.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki, House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal and other senior officials are attending the opening ceremony.
