CAIRO - 26 May 2017: Twenty-eight people are dead and at least 25 others injured in a shooting attack targeting a bus carrying more than 50 Coptic Christians on Friday in Upper Egypt, according to the Ministry of Health.

A number of unknown gunmen opened fire at the bus while it was on its way to Saint Samuel's Monastery in Minya governorate. The gunmen used three four-wheel drive vehicles in their attack, said the Ministry of Interior in a Friday statement.

A police hunt has been launched on the Western Desert road in an attempt to apprehend the perpetrators.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a security meeting to discuss the issue of Minya attack, directing the cabinet to take all required measures for the treatment of injured people.

Attorney General Nabil Sadek has ordered to open an urgent enquiry into the attack.
