ALGIERS - 17 September 2018: German chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Algiers Monday on a one-day visit to the north African country. She was received at the airport by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.

The German chancellor is due to hold talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the prime minister who will hold a press conference with Merkel at the end of their talks.

The last visit by Merkel to Algeria took place in 2008, said Algeria's news agency, pointing out that there are more than 200 German institutions working in Algeria in various domains.

Germany imported goods from Algeria worth 1.9 billion dollars over the first seven months of this year.
