CAIRO – 15 September 2018: The Ministry of Health and Population formed ad hoc squads to investigate the death of three patients at Deyrab Negm Hospital in Sharkeya governorate during hemodialysis sessions while 12 others sank into a coma, the spokesperson announced Saturday.

Primary investigations revealed that the hemodialysis unit was subject to maintenance on Friday.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly asked Minister Hala Zayed to head to the hospital immediately stressing that severe penalties must be imposed in cases of negligence and that the investigation results must be announced to the public as soon as they are known.

Zayed ordered the shutting of the hemodialysis unit at the hospital and summoned its senior officials, while Sharkeya Governor Mamdouh Ghorab declared that an investigation had started as well.

Sharkeya Health Directorate announced Saturday that three patients died during their hemodialysis sessions, and 12 others fell into coma; half of whom have been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Zagazig University Hospital.

The deceased are Fardous Abdullah Ahmed from Mansheyet Sahbara village, Sobhy Abdel Hay Ali from Moqim al-Seweni village, and Salam Mohamed Ibrahim from Kafr al-Hag Ahmed.
