CAIRO – 14 September 2018: Spain announced its commitment to deliver 400 laser-guided bombs to Saudi Arabia after negotiations, said Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles Thursday.

The delivery of the €9.2 million deal has been suspended since September 4 over concerns of using such weapons against civilians in Yemen. Spain is set to deliver these bombs as per a contract signed with Saudi Arabia in 2015, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell told Onda Thero.

Moreover, the contract will be studied bilaterally, “seriously and within the framework of the good relationships” Robles stated, adding that the dispute will be resolved in an “amicable way”.

The delay came after Saudi’s last deadly attack on a civilian bus in Dahyan district in Yemen, which resulted in 50 deaths and another 77 injuries on August 9, 2018, according to Sputnik news agency.

Also, Spain has recently admitted that selling five Spanish battleships worth € 1.8 Billion to Saudi Arabia is way much harder to be accomplished due to the same humanitarian issues facing the leader of the Arabian alliance in Yemen.
