Chinese media shed light on Sisi’s visit to Beijing

CAIRO – 3 September 2018: Several Chinese media reportsshed light on President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's visit to China which started on Saturday, Sept.1 and includedseveral high-profile meetings along with signing $18.3 billion deals between the two countries.

ChinesePeoplenewspaper quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping describing the relation between Cairo and Beijing as “strategic”. “Egypt is a representative of Arab states, Africa, Islamic countries, major developing nations and emerging economies, with an increasing influence on international and regional affairs,”Jinping said. He noted that China highly values developing the comprehensive strategic partnership with Egypt.

According to Peoplenewspaper,Jinping pledged to continue to support Egypt in its efforts to maintain stability, develop economy and improve people's livelihood, pursuing a development path that comes in line with its national conditionsand playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs.

“China is willing to strengthen strategic communication and coordination with Egypt and safeguard common interests,”Jinpingasserted.

“Stressing that China views Egypt as an important and long-term partner of cooperation in the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, Jinping said China is willing to align the initiative with Egypt's Vision 2030 and Suez Canal Corridor Development Project, promote pragmatic cooperation between the two countries, and enhance collaboration in counter-terrorism and security areas,”the newspaper stated.

English Chinese channel CGTN also broadcasted a report titled “China andEgypt Vow to Advance Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”,highlighting the importance of Sisi's visit and what it indicates about the two countries' relations.



The report pointed out Sisi and Jinping's statements regarding the two nations' civilizations and similar views aboutpromoting dialogues between nations and countries.

On Sunday, Egypt and China signed deals worth $18.3 billionto carry out different Chinese development projects in the North African country.

Sisi witnessed the signing ceremony with major heads of Chinese companies operating in Egypt, presidential spokesperson BassamRadi said.Sisi stressed the depth and strength of the Egyptian-Chinese relations, which hold the oldest two civilizations in man history. The Egyptian-Chinese friendship was embodied in inking comprehensive strategic collaboration on all levels, according to Radi.

The Egyptian president showed his interest in meeting with key Chinese businessmen and economists in order to enhance economic and trade cooperation, offering them investment opportunities in Egypt. He praised the Chinese development experience in East Asia.

The president reviewed Egypt’s economic reform, the challenges it faced over the past years, and how it positively impacted investment opportunities. He asserted that Egypt’s development priorities comply with the Belt and Road Initiative announced by the Chinese president in 2013.

The deals included the construction of a power plant using clean coal technology with capacities of up to 6000 megawatts in Al-Hamrawain on the Red Sea coast, as well as the construction ofthe secondphase of the central work at the New Administrative Capital, the project of pumping station and storage at Mount Ataka, the ShaundongRui Textile Group Area Project, and other development projects at Suez Canal Axis.

Sisi in Beijing for further Egyptian-Chinese relations

CAIRO - 1 September 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived on Saturday in Beijing, a stop in his in four-day visit, which will include his participation at the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) slated for Sept. 3-4, and a bilateral summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing.
