Sisi attends high-level dialogue at FOCAC Beijing Summit 2018

BEIJING - 3 September 2018: Ahead of attending the opening of the FOCAC Beijing Summit 2018, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi partook in a high-level dialogue that brought together Chinese and African leaders and business representatives.

The president also participated in the 6th conference of Chinese and African entrepreneurs.

During his inaugural speech, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of harmonizing between economic and trade development and cooperation between China and African countries.

The value of China-Africa trade volume amounted to USD 170 billion, Xi said, lauding the recently achieved industrial progress in Africa thanks to several mega projects including the Suez Canal Corridor (SCC).

Investment opportunities are abound in Africa, said Chairman of the Federation Of Egyptian Chambers Of Commerce (FEDCOC) Ahmed el Wakil,, noting that the continent is home to 60% of he world's arable land.

Africa also has 50% of the world's platinum and diamond reserves plus 5% of its natural gas and 4% of its coal reserves, he added.

Wakil invited the Chinese and African entrepreneurs to the Africa Investment Forum slated for December in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Speaking for Central African countries, President of Chad Idriss Déby called on the Chinese companies to pump more investments in Africa, laying an emphasis on addressing the problem of poverty in the continent.

For his part, Namibian President Hage Geingob asserted the need for bringing the African poverty rate down and bolstering Chinese-African cooperation.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari hailed the fruitful cooperation between China and his country, adding that he had been looking forward to deepening Nigerian-Chinese relations, finalizing the concluded agreements and signing new ones with China.

The Forum on China Africa Cooperation, also known as FOCAC, is a triennial forum designed to enhance overall China-Africa ties. This edition of the forum is held under the theme (“China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation.”)
