CAIRO 30 August 2018: - Egyptian-Italian relations are deep and historic, said visiting Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Development Luigi De Mayo.

Italy has real and sincere intentions to boost its ties with Egypt, he added.

This came during De Mayo's meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Wednesday evening.

Egyptian ministers of electricity, investment and international cooperation, petroleum and trade and industry along with assistant foreign minister for European affairs and Italian ambassador to Egypt attended the meeting.

De Mayo's visit to Egypt comes to reflect the Italian keenness on boosting cooperation between both countries especially in the fields of gas and energy.

De Mayo expressed his country's desire to participate in all the projects implemented in the new cities in the different domains.

The Italian companies seek pumping investments in the Egyptian market to benefit from the promising investment opportunities available in the major national projects.

The Egyptian-Italian cooperation will have positive impact on the countries of the Mediterranean and South Europe, De Mayo said.

It is important to activate the role of the Egyptian-Italian business council to boost cooperation between both countries, he added.

Italy supports Egypt in its war against terror, De Mayo said, adding that his country is willing to present the technical support needed to combat terrorism.

He also asserted Italy's support for the Egyptian efforts exerted to combat illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Madbouli lauded the progress of the Italian-Egyptian ties, adding that Italy is one of the most important economic partners to Egypt at the international and European levels.

Egypt is looking forward to more cooperation with Italy in the different economic sectors, Madbouli added.

Madbouli also lauded the fruitful cooperation in the fields of petroleum and natural gas, asserting the keenness of the Egyptian government to continue exerting efforts to transform Egypt into a regional center for transferring energy from eastern Mediterranean to Europe.

Egypt is looking forward to more cooperation with Italy to combat terror and illegal migration, Madbouli said.
