CAIRO – 22 August 2018: Complaints against sexual harassment incidents witnessed a severe decline during Eid al-Adha this year according to Head of the Complaints Office Manager of the National Council for Women (NCW), Naglaa al-Adly, on Wednesday.

In an official statement issued by the council, it was stated that a working team was monitoring several public locations during Eid including several cinemas and parks; however, no sexual harassment incidents were spotted this year.

However, one piece of news was reported by media outlets mentioned that sexual harassment incidents were spotted in Giza Zoo during Eid’s first day. Investigations were reported to be opened in these cases by NCW to ensure the validity of the reported and to communicate with the victims.

The NCW affirmed in the statement that its affiliated working team has been collaborating with the interior ministry and especially the unit of combating violence against women to reduce all possible threats against women during Eid.

During Eid El-Fitr holiday, Egypt witnessed an intense deployment of female police officers to combat sexual harassment in streets and public areas.

The female officers were heavily deployed at several places in the capital where sexual harassment could possibly occur due to overcrowding, such as the ticket windows of parks and cinemas, Corniche al-Nile and downtown Cairo.

Girls and women can file harassment complaints via email at omb.office@yahoo.com. They can also call the complaints office on 01007525600 and the hotline 15115. Furthermore, they can communicate with the office through the NCW official Facebook page or they can personally visit the office. Above all, they have to file a case against the harasser in the nearest police station.
