CAIRO – 22 May, 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is set to inaugurate a number of projects in Damietta Furniture City, north of Cairo, on Tuesday.

Tarek Kabil, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ismail Taha, Damietta’s governor and Major-General Kamel al-Wazir, chief of military engineering authority, visited the furniture city Monday to inspect the projects.

They visited a number of workshops and the technological center, which are part of the new Damietta Furniture City project.

Damietta is known to be the Egyptian hub for the furniture industry. Out of exported Egyptian furniture, 70 percent comes from Damietta, according to Taha.

Damietta Furniture City Project, launched in 2015, is built on 331 acres, and is expected to include at least 2000 workshops and 55 factories. The project is set to provide over 40,000 direct jobs and 120,000 indirect jobs, as well as boasting a capacity of 2,400 furniture factories and workshops, the trade ministry announced in July 2015.
