CAIRO - 7 August 2018: Egypt's President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stressed strengthening ties with Germany during a meeting on Monday with Martin Herrenknecht, president of the German manufacturer of tunnel boring machines, Herrenknecht AG, in the presence of Hisham Arafat, minister of transport, and Major General Kamel Wazir, head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

Presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady highlighted the president's appreciation for the German companies’ efforts in enhancing bilateral ties between Egypt and Germany, stressing the importance of ongoing organisation and cooperation between the two countries on all levels.

Herrenknecht affirmed his commitment to cooperation with Egypt, especially in aiding the country's economic reform programme.

Egypt has been developing closer ties with Germany in the last two years, with the two countries signing a number of economic deals.

During the meeting, al-Sisi praised the fruitful cooperation with the German companies, which enjoy good reputation in the Egyptian market due to their high quality products and services, and professionalism.

He also hailed the role played by German Herrenknecht AG in the implementation of a number of mega projects in Egypt, especially Suez Canal tunnels.

The President voiced Egypt's keenness to obtain the best bids from the German company for the purchase of modern drilling machines to use them in giant underway projects.
