Irrigation min. opens several national projects in Port Said, Daqahlia

PORT SAID, Egypt - 2 August 2018: Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati inaugurated on Thursday a number of national projects in Port Said and Daqahlia governorates.

In Port Said, which lies in north east Egypt along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, north of the Suez Canal, the minister opened South El Hussainia sewage pumping station, at investments amounting to nearly 100 million pounds.

The station will help improve the drainage of agricultural fields stretching over an area of 87,000 feddans in Sharqiyah governorate.

For his part, head of the mechanics and electricity authority Mohamed Abdel Aati said that the opening of the new station falls within the framework of upgrading old sewer pumping stations.

On the sidelines of his visit to Port Said, the minister toured El-Salam 2 and 3 water-lift stations that were built within the framework of El Salam Canal Project that serves 630,000 feddans in the governorates of east and west the Suez Canal zone and Sinai.

In Daqahlia, northeast of Cairo, the minister inaugurated "Hadous" Bridge, at a total cost of 26.5 million pounds.

Head of the horizontal expansion sector in the ministry eng. Nadia Abdel Hamid said that this bridge is located above Bahr Hadous drain in the northeast of Delta.

The upper bridge occupies a strategic location as it connects Damietta and Daqahlia governorates with Sharqiyah and Port Said governorates, she added.

The bridge is 88 meters in length and 14 meters in width, Abdel Hamid said, adding it was built in 12 months, with 6.8-million-pound implementation cost.

The minister also inspected El Salam 3 station that lifts from 6 to 8 million cubic meters of Bahr Hadous drain water to be treated and mixed with El Salam Canal water.

El-Salam Canal greatly increases the water resources of the area west of Suez Canal and Sinai. The canal conveys the required water from Damietta branch of the Nile River, after being mixed with treated drainage water from the main drains of the Eastern Delta.
