Attorney General urges capture of Bishop Epiphanius’s assailant

CAIRO – 1 August 2018: Egyptian Attorney General, Nabil Sadek, urged South Damanhur prosecution office – the prosecution office investigating Bishop Epiphanius’s mysterious death- to urgently request the late Bishop’s autopsy report.

Sadek instructed the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) team quickly end their investigation and capture the perpetrators behind the crime.

The CID team has previously arrived at the crime scene after being informed of the crime, the team confiscated all the digital video recorders located in the Monastery in order to trace the Bishop’s last movements.

Bishop Epiphanius, head of St. Macarius Monastery in Wadi El-Natru, was found dead and covered in blood on Sunday morning. The preliminary security investigation suggested that Bishop Epiphanius was hit by a sharp object.

Bishop Epiphanius was born in 1954 in Tanta, Gharbia governorate and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine. In February 1984, he joined the Monastery of St. Macarius in Wadi El-Natrun and only a few months later, he was ordained as a monk. He was ordained as a priest in 2002, and was elected as the head of the monastery in 2013.
