CAIRO - 26 July 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a decree approving amendments to the Police Authority law.

The amendments were earlier approved by the House of Representatives.

As per the amendments, a disciplinary council will be created upon a decision from the interior minister after consulting the Supreme Council of Police Forces (SCPF).

The newly formed council will include an assistant of the interior minister, the chairman of fatwa department at the Interior Ministry and a public attorney.

The director of the ministry's inspection department will represent the prosecution in the disciplinary council.

The council is not authorized to stiffen the penalty if the officer, being in question, has filed an appeal.
