CAIRO – 26 July 2018: Egypt’s Cabinet passed a metrology law on Wednesday that regulates measurements for public utilities and other national construction projects.

A national council for metrology will be established as per the above-mentioned law.
The council will be responsible for laying out pertinent strategies related to measurements and will prioritize consumer protection, preserving national aspirations as well ensuring environment and public health and promoting local products to get access to the global market.

Moreover, it will coordinate with all concerned bodies to govern and unify units and standards of measurements and to ensure the transparency and traceability of relevant data.

The new law gives individuals and other entities the right to learn about measurement results and further ensure that they are not used to the detriment of national security.

Also, the law also includes penalties for construction violations such as substandard buildings.
