CAIRO - 2 July 2018: Egypt strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place in the center of the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, leaving more than 12 people dead and 20 others wounded.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, wishing speedy recovery to all wounded.

The explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who targeted a vehicle carrying members of the Sikh minority.

The ministry reiterated Egypt's full support of Afghanistan in face of terrorism, renewing call for mobilizing international efforts to uproot terrorism and dry up its financing sources.

The blast, hours after President Ashraf Ghani had opened a hospital in Jalalabad, damaged shops and buildings around Mukhaberat square in the city.
