NOUAKCHOTT - 24 June 2018: The 31st summit of the African Union will take place in July in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott for the first time, reported Mauritania Radio.

The summit will adopt an African media strategy to face terrorism and extremism, according to the Radio.

The radio made it clear that the summit convocation in the Mauritanian capital comes as a success of the Mauritanian diplomacy two years after hosting the Arab Summit.

The 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union will convene under the theme: “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation.”

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz has chaired the African Union in 2014.

It will be the first time for Mauritanian to host the African Summit since its independent on November 28, 1960.
