CAIRO – 17 June 2018: The Ministry of Transportation is planning to launch a mobile application for booking and canceling railway tickets online.

In press remarks on Sunday, Arafat said that the first trail of the new mobile-based service will be during Eid Al-Adha, which falls within a couple of months.

“A new mobile application will soon be launched and will enable citizens to inquire about ticket prices and trains’ timetables, and that the payment method will be conducted through the Visa or Smart Card of the National Authority of the Railway,” he added.

As for the booking system, Arafat pointed out that the smart cards for train booking/cancelation purposes will be available in train stations and that ticket prices will be deducted from the smart card’s credit.

Revenues of the Egyptian Railways Authority recorded LE 168.6 million ($9.39 million) in April 2018, compared to LE 153.6 million in the same month of 2017, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
