Cairo - 13 May 2017: For the first time, Ministry of Antiquities will organize Ramadan celebrations in gardens of historic castles, head of the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Department, Saeed Helmy, announced Saturday.

The ministry will hold Ramadan tents for Iftar (breakfast) and Suhoor in Baron Palace, Palace of the Mansterli, the Saladin Citadel and the palace of Mohamed Ali.

The right to use the historic palaces’ gardens was granted through a bid to the applicant who offered the highest price, Helmy stated. He added that the ministry’s income in Ramadan this year is expected to exceed 3 million EGP.

The palaces will also be open for visitors in the evenings, Helmy said, stating that a large number of security forces will be present to secure the archaeological sites.
