Egypt sends medical aid, food convoy to East Africa

CAIRO – 12 May 2017: An Egyptian medical convoy including four doctors and a medical equipment engineer in ophthalmology was sent to Eritrea from April 28 to May 7, said Egypt's ambassador to Eritrea Yasser Hashemin a statement on Thursday.

Hashem pointed out that the Eritrean Minister of Health Amina Nour received the convoy at the Ministry of Health in Asmara. She expressed her great appreciation for what Egypt has contributed in developing and supporting the health sector in Eritrea.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s ambassador to Somalia, Walid Ismail announced that the Egyptian embassy sent to Somalia’s government food and medical aid, in coordination with the Ministry of Defense in order to relief the Somali people from the drought crisis through a C130 military cargo plane.

The shipment included 750 cartons of food, three bales of medicine and medical supplies weighing nine tons.

Senior officials of the Somali government headed by the Somali Health Minister received the convoy at Mogadishu International airport.

For her part, Somali Health Minister Dr. Fawzia Nour expressed her gratitude, stressing on the importance of Egyptian aid in saving the Somali people.
