CAIRO – 11 May 2017: The Ministry of Antiquities denied granting permission for a $40 million Saudi wedding proposal party by the pyramids in Giza, according to an official statement on Wednesday.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported earlier in May that “one romantic Saudi prince” hired the Egyptian pyramids for a lavish party, for which he flew in 300 friends and family members, and proposed to his girlfriend.

“This news is completely void and the minister did not receive a similar request or issue any permission or approval regarding this issue,” said Ashraf Salah, director of cultural relations at the ministry.

Ashraf Mohi, director-general of Giza Plateau, further confirmed that there have not been any weddings held by the pyramids recently, adding that the circulated news is only based on rumors.
