CAIRO – 8 May 2018: Satirical vlogger Shady AbuZaid was ordered detained on Tuesday for 15 days pending investigations into belonging to an illegal group and spreading false news.

AbuZaid became known to the public when he worked as a correspondent for the satirical show “Abla Fahita,” and was known for his sense of humor.

However, the famous show dispensed with his services after he played a prank with actor Ahmed Malek on police conscripts and officers at Cairo’s Tahrir Square on the fifth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution in 2016, which coincides with the Police Day.

The prank was widely criticized; he offered unsuspecting officers inflated condoms as balloons, and they obliviously accepted them.

He has since made his own videos, some of which show him interviewing random passersby and asking them funny questions. It has not been made clear what false news are in question.
