CAIRO – 2 May 2018: Egypt condemned Wednesday the double terrorist attacks that targeted a mosque and a market in northeast Nigerian town of Mubi, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The attack killed at least 60 people and injured dozens others.

The statement expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that the Egyptian government and people stand with the government and the friendly people of Nigeria in order to counter and eradicate terrorism.

Suspicion for the attack immediately fell on Boko Haram, the jihadist group whose quest to establish a hard-line Islamic state in northeast Nigeria has left at least 20,000 dead since 2009.

Egypt also affirmed that such despicable operations will not dent the Nigerian people’s determination to confront the terrorism phenomenon that targets security and stability in all societies.
