CAIRO – 7 May 2017: Four members of Egypt’s House of Representatives submitted their resignations on Sunday to Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal to protest what they describe as the “inflexibility” of the municipality in South Sinai governorate.

The resigned MPs, namely Nour Salam Ahmed, Attia Mousa Gably, Ghareb Ahmed Hassan and Sarah Saleh Abdel-Motelb, are the only representatives of the South Sinai province in the Parliament.

“We face a real problem with the municipality of the governorate, as it does not cooperate to meet the citizens’ demands.” the resignation letter read.

After it was dismantled in 2012, Egypt’s Parliament held its first session in January 2016.
