CAIRO - 6 April 2018: The Egyptian committee formed to recover looted state-owned lands set the final date to receive requests for legalizing the possession of such lands at June 14, the spokesperson for the committee, Ahmed Ayoub, said on Thursday.

He added that the committee formed minor councils in each governorate to receive the citizens’ requests directly, noting that these councils have gotten about 50,000 requests so far.

Ayoub pointed out that the committee also mandated those councils to examine and evaluate of the looted lands before reconciliation in each governorate under the supervision of the committee.

Formed by Egypt's President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in February 2016, the committee aims to recover looted state lands in accordance with the law governing each authority.

The committee is led by former Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and includes the minister of local development, the president’s aide for security affairs and counter-terrorism, and representatives from the justice, defense and finance ministries, and Egypt's general intelligence.

The committee announced last year that it has succeeded in recovering nearly 4.6 million square meters of looted state lands equivalent to 1,097 acres in Cairo.
