CAIRO – 5 April 2018: The Constituent Assembly tasked with setting conditions for joining Egypt’s Media Syndicate concluded its job, according to media reports on Thursday.

"The syndicate’s registration committee headed by Tarek Saada will start considering membership requests next week," Hamdi al-Konaisi, head of the syndicate said, adding that 5,000 requests have already been submitted.

Media personnel who aspire to join the syndicate have to meet the following main conditions:

1- They have to be Egyptian.
2- They need to have full legal capacity; to be free and not placed under guardianship.
3- They need to have a bachelor’s degree.
4- They must enjoy a good reputation.
5- They must not have a criminal record.
6- They must not have been convicted in a crime.

In January 2017, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a law establishing a syndicate for audio-visual media personnel, following the parliament’s approval. The Media Syndicate will be responsible for regulating audio-visual media practices, as well as defending its members.
