CAIRO – 1 April 2018: The Court of Cassation rejected on Sunday an appeal against a death sentence imposed on Adel Asaliya, a man accused of killing an alcohol vendor at Khaled ibn al-Waleed district, Alexandria.
Adel Abdel Nour, known as Adel Asaliya, was arrested in January 2017 after murdering a Christian nut shop owner for selling alcoholic drinks.
Asaliya reportedly killed Yusuf Lamei, the shop owner, after he spotted him entering a cafe near the shop and stabbed Lamei twice from the back.
Alexandria Criminal Court had sentenced Asaliya to death two months after he was arrested. He also faces a separate, 7-year sentence for the attempted murder of a microbus driver.
Al- Azhar University’s Sheikh Eraky Hamed, an Islamic researcher, affirms murder is prohibited in Islam, and all souls are inviolable. Hamed also recounted a statement by Prophet Muhammad warning, “whoever kills a Mu’ahid (a person who is granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years (of traveling).”
