CAIRO - 24 March 2018: “We need you [scientists], and Egypt is in the need of your researches to overcome problems,” said Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi during the inauguration of the “National Conference for Scientific Research” on Saturday.

Sisi stressed that the government is determined to achieve significant progress in the science and research fields, noting that the Egyptian state has been exerting its best efforts to boost scientific research and innovation.

He expressed the pride he felt when he met with Egyptian scientists and researchers under the title: “Release of Egyptians’ Powers,” adding, “Egypt cares about scientists and appreciates their role in building the nation’s future.”

During his speech at the conference, Sisi said that Egypt has recently been facing substantial challenges due to developments on a local, regional and global level, which include global terrorism, hard economic circumstances and the political instability that Egypt has been enduring since the 2011 revolution.

The restoration of stability has been Egypt’s main priority recently, following a period of instability, according to Sisi who affirmed that progress with regards to the solving of these crises can only be achieved through stability.

“The large-scale Operation Sinai 2018 has been launched in order to combat terrorism, but it has been implemented alongside other related social and cultural activities and not only security and military based action,” Sisi added.

Sisi assured that the operation in Sinai has achieved several successes and these successful outcomes confirm the state’s strong capacity in fighting terrorism, noting that “Egypt’s heroes fighting in Sinai now, as well as other Egyptian martyrs’ blood, will always be a powerful reminder for us to keep pushing ahead.”

The Ministry of High Education and Scientific Research has organized the conference which is set to review the priorities upon which scientific research should focus upon in Egypt. It will place this within the framework of the national unified strategies for science, technology, innovation and Egypt’s sustainable development’s vision 2030, according to the Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi.

Last January, Sisi revealed a detailed review of all the figures, data, and facts achieved in Egypt since 2014, within the country's national project and its 2030 vision.

Sisi, while addressing the ceremony for Mother's Day, stressed that the government has laid down a comprehensive strategy to empower women in all aspects of life, asserting that such notions are at the heart of Egypt’s ambitious vision of 2030.
