BRUSSELS - 23 March 2018: French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday said EU nations would respond to an attack using a military-grade nerve agent against a former Russian spy in England, which he called a threat to European sovereignty.

"We consider this attack as a serious challenge to our security and European sovereignty so it calls for a coordinated and determined response from the European Union and its member states," Macron said at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel after a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.

He said several states, including Germany and France, would take swift measures in response.
