Sisi welcomes Bahrain’s FM, asserts Egypt’s commitment to boost bilateral relations

CAIRO - 8 March 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi welcomed Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa on Thursday to discuss regional affairs and bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the acting general intelligence chief, and Al Khalifa discussed critical regional issues of common concern, especially the necessary means to enhance bilateral counter-terrorism efforts. They also reviewed the efforts expended to reach political solutions to conflicts in the region, according to presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi.

Bin Ahmed handed the president a message from King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa that asserted the deep bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as intensifying the consultation about the regional conditions in light of Egypt's pivotal role in the Middle East region as a force that is working for stability and peace.

The Bahraini minister affirmed his country’s keenness to carrying on the coordination with Egypt to confront the challenges in the region, jeopardizing the security and stability of Arab countries especially in the fight against terrorism.

From his side, President Sisi requested bin Ahmed to deliver his greetings to King Hamad, stressing on the speciality and strength of Egyptian-Bahraini relations, given the long mutual history between the two nations, according to Radi.

“The president expressed Egypt’s keenness to guarantee the security and stability of Bahrain, and Gulf area in general, considering the security in the Gulf as an integral part of Egypt's national security,” Radi said in an official statement. Sisi affirmed that Egypt will continue working to push cooperation with Bahrain on all levels to achieve mutual interests.

Bin Ahmed met Shoukry on Wednesday to discuss the bilateral relations, ahead of the ministerial meeting of the Arab League taking place in Cairo on Wednesday.
