CAIRO - 5 March 2018: Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed El Tayyeb commended the role of Saudi Arabia in serving Islam and Muslims, as well as supporting the nation's issues, expressing Al Azhar and the Egyptian people's appreciation for this role.

This came in a statement by Al Azhar after a meeting between Tayyeb and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al Azhar's headquarters in Cairo.

Tayyeb stressed the status of which Muslims hold for Saudi Arabia, commending the relations between Egyptian and Saudi peoples, as well as the deep-rooted relations between Al Azhar and Saudi Arabia.

For his part, the Saudi crown prince expressed Saudi Arabia's appreciation for Al Azhar and its distinguished scholars, stressing his personal appreciation for Al Azhar and Tayyeb.

He underlined that he follows up Al Azhar's efforts as a pillar of Islamic thought.

In addition, he underscored the role played by Al Azhar in dealing with the threats that face the Arab and Muslim world, expressing his country's appreciation for the role carried out by Tayyeb in spreading the culture of moderate thoughts, coexistence, peace and fighting extremist ideology.

Meanwhile, he pointed out at Saudi Arabia's keenness to boost cooperation with Al Azhar.
