CAIRO - 2 March 2018: Hisham al-Demiri, chairman of the Tourism Promotion Authority submitted his resignation on Thursday to the Minister of Tourism, Rania al-Mashat.

According to his resignation request, Demiri asked to be exempted from his duties starting from April.

“There are a lot of more qualified people than me in the tourism sector to can carry out and fulfill the entire tasks,” al-Demiri said in the resignation letter.

The 50-year-old has more than 27 years experience in the tourism field. He graduated from the faculty of commerce and business administration. Additionally, he took hotel management courses in Egypt, Europe and United States

On February 17, 2018, he stated that the tourism sector in Egypt has increased by 30% in 2016 and 2017 more than previous years.
