CAIRO - 16 February 2018: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit participates in the 54th Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2018, due to kick off later in the day.

The three-day conference focuses on the future role of the European Union (EU) as a global actor and its relations with Russia and the United States.

In statements on Friday, Spokesman for AL Secretary General Mahmoud Afifi said the AL chief is keen on participating in international conferences as a good opportunity to engage in profound talks with senior officials on the future of peace and stability at the international level in general and in the Arab region in particular.

Abul Gheit is one of the keynote speakers at the conference's session on conditions in the Middle East region.

The session will be also attended by several ministers and UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Abul Gheit will present the Arab League's vision for the latest developments in the ME region, means of settling the Palestinian issue and protecting the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, as well as putting an end to armed conflicts in Syria, Libya and Yemen, the spokesman said.

Abul Gheit is also scheduled to hold a series of important meetings with senior officials and representatives of regional and international organizations on the sidelines of the conference, Afifi added.

They will exchange views on a host of issues and the Arab League's role in dealing with different Arab issues, the spokesman added.
