CAIRO - 5 February 2018: Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has expressed the pan-Arab body's commitment to cooperating with Djibouti to achieve stability and development.

This came during a meeting he had with Djibouti's President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh during his current official visit there, AL secretary general’s spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said Monday.

Abul Gheit expressed the league's readiness to send a delegation to Djibouti to monitor the legislative elections due to be held on February 23 upon the request of Djibouti's government.

The Arab League chief reviewed with Guelleh the developments of the Palestinian problem and the crises in Syria, Yemen and Lebanon along with efforts to combat terrorism, and arrangements for next month's Arab summit in Saudi Arabia.

For his part, Guelleh welcomed the Arab League's efforts to close up Arab ranks and achieve security and stability across the Arab countries.

President Guelleh reviewed his country's views towards developments in Yemen and the Horn of Africa, stressing the importance of achieving security and stability in African countries such as Somalia, South Sudan, Comoros and Libya.
