CAIRO – 15 January 2018: Egypt strongly condemned the twin terrorist attacks that struck Al-Tayaran square in central Baghdad, killing 27people and injuring more than 60, according to Presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement on Monday.

Egypt also offered the deepest condolences to the Iraqi president and the families of the victims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The statement stressed that the continuation of these terrorist acts is indicative of the fact that terrorism is an international phenomenon targeting various societies.

The statement added that Egypt is committed to continue exerting maximum efforts in coordination with fraternal and friendly countries to develop a comprehensive international strategy to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.

Early Monday, two men detonated explosives vests in Al-Tayaran Square, a commercial district and gathering point for day laborers seeking work, scores of whom were killed and injured, according to the Iraqi official.

The attack was one of the deadliest in Baghdad since a massive truck bomb killed at least 324 people in the nearby commercial district of Karrada in July 2016.
