CAIRO – 13 January 2018: Saudi Arabia’s air defense units intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen to the Saudi city of Najran, according to a statement by the Arab coalition.

The spokesperson of the coalition in Yemen, Turki al-Maliki, said in a statement on Thursday, that the Royal Saudi Air force had managed to intercept the missile in mid-air, without any casualties, SPA reported.

Al-Maliki said, the missile had been fired towards Najran city, and was targeting heavily populated areas. The launch site has been traced to the Amran province in northern Yemen, al-Maliki added.

The Houthis fired an M2 missile, targeting the military airport of Apache helicopters and the Saudi Special Forces Camp in Najran, SABA reported.

The Houthi Militias have fired several ballistic missiles towards Saudi Arabia over the last few months. On December 19, Yemen's Houthi movement said they fired a ballistic missile towards the Saudi capital Riyadh, targeting a meeting of Saudi leaders at a royal palace.
