CAIRO - 10 January 2018: Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the cabinet approved on Wednesday establishing several new faculties, including a faculty of medicine in Luxor which will be affiliated to the South Valley University.

Addressing a press conference, Abdel Ghaffar said the cabinet also approved establishing a faculty for energy, mining and engineering to support the Golden Triangle project due to be carried out in the Red Sea, Sohag and Qena.

The Golden Triangle is one of the country’s mega-projects, covering the area between Safaga and Al-Qoseir overlooking the Red Sea, to Qena and Qeft in Upper Egypt. It will include businesses in different areas, such as mining, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, solar energy and water desalination.

The main goal of this project is to exploit Egypt’s raw materials like gold and phosphate and increase their return on the economy.

The cabinet also approved a 500-million-euro agreement with the European Union for Mediterranean countries conducting water and agro-researches.
