CAIRO – 10 January 2018: A meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and his Tanzanian counterpart Augustine Mahiga began Wednesday in Cairo, where both officials discuss several issues of mutual interest, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference of both ministers to share their talks’ results with reporters of various media outlets, allowing them to ask several questions about the two countries’ relations.

Ambassador Mohamed Edris, Mahiga’s assistant for African affairs, added in statements that the proceedings of the third session of the Egyptian-Tanzanian Joint Committee have already kicked off earlier on Tuesday on a high-level representation by both countries, as the final session is expected Wednesday, headed by the foreign ministers of both countries.

The Joint Committee proceedings should be presented by the ministers of agriculture, electricity, trade, health and tourism. Extensive talks are expected to take place between the two officials aiming to develop their diplomatic relations.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s visit to Tanzania scheduled this year is expected to be discussed during the Joint Committee proceedings, according to Edris.

Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustine Mahiga, arrived in Cairo early Tuesday, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The three-day visit to Cairo is expected to include several meetings and talks regarding the two countries’ relations, along with a number of national and international events.
