AMMAN - 9 January 2018: US Vice President Mike Pence will visit Jordan on January 21 within the framework of a regional tour, an official source told the Jordanian news agency Petra on Tuesday.

Pence is scheduled to meet with Jordanian King Abdullah II, added the source.

Pence will travel to the Middle East later this month on behalf of President Donald Trump. The vice president will visit Egypt, Jordan, and Israel January 19-23, 2018, the White House said.

Pence will address the shared need to combat terrorism.

The vice president will depart on January 19 and will arrive in Egypt on January 20, where he will meet with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. Following, he will travel to Jordan on January 21 to meet with His Majesty King Abdullah II, added the White House.

Pence will then spend January 22-23 in Israel, where he will participate in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin. He will also give remarks at the Knesset, and visit Yad Vashem and the Western Wall.

“The Vice President is traveling to the Middle East to reaffirm our commitment to work with the United States’ allies in the region to defeat radicalism that threatens future generations,” said Alyssa Farah, Press Secretary for the Vice President. “The Vice President is looking forward to meeting with the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, and Israel to discuss ways to work together to fight terrorism and improve our national security.”
