CAIRO – 5 January 2018: Authorities of Cairo International Airport announced a state of emergency on Friday, due to deterioration of visibility in the landing areas, caused by poor weather conditions.

The areas of landing at the airport were affected by a wave of intensive dusty winds in the early morning along with foggy weather. The Civil Protection Forces, fire trucks, and ambulances are on stand-by.

Cairo airport flights’ schedule did not change, and there have been no cancellations of flights to Cairo.

As a result of the poor weather conditions, authorities have also closed the Red Sea Port, Nuweiba, Mediterranean ports in Suez and Zeiteyat in Suez, due to poor weather conditions on Friday, as winds approached 32 knots and waves reached 4 meters offshore.

Temperatures will decrease on Friday, with high-speed winds accompanied by dust. Also, rainfall can be expected along the North Coast, in Lower Egypt, Cairo, and some areas in central and South Sinai, EMA stated on Thursday.

Gusty sand- and dust-winds are expected across most parts of the country, obscuring the vision on roads and obstructing navigation, the statement added.
