EL TOR, Egypt - 31 December 2017: Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati on Sunday said South Sinai governorate will be totally safe from floods by the end of 2018.

This came during his inspection tour of Nuweiba city in South Sinai.

The second phase to secure the governorate from floods will end soon, he said, adding that the first and second phases involved the construction of eight dams and three lakes at a cost of EGP 225 mln.

The political leadership is paying great attention to secure South Sinai from floods’ threats, the minister said, noting that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is keen on following up the development efforts in the governorate.

The minister said floods were being stored in the lakes via the dams in order to be used in agriculture and provide drinking water to local residents.
