CAIRO – 27 December 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi approved on Wednesday the amendments of law No 223 released in 1953, concerning the system of appointing the deputy ministers.

The government-drafted amendments were first introduced by the Parliament back in July; the amendments stipulate that the deputy minister is empowered to attend the meetings of the Cabinet during the absence of the minister.

Also, the amendments included that the appointment of deputy ministers must be first approved by the Parliament, and that deputy ministers have the same powers of ministers, either completely or partially based on a the Cabinet’s decision in this regard.

It is noteworthy that current Finance Minister Amr el-Garhy has three deputies; each is specialized in a specific section in the ministry.
