Ten Egyptians who can’t vote in next presidential elections

CAIRO – 26 December 2017: To enjoy all political rights in Egypt, citizens must be free of 10 causes that prevent them from casting their vote in the upcoming presidential elections.
Egypt Today presents the spectrum of citizens that will be unable to vote in the next elections:
1. A person who is interdicted for any reason during the period of legal incapacity.

2. A person suffering from a mental disorder during the period of their compulsory detention in a mental health care unit, in accordance with the provisions of Psychiatric Care Law No. 71 of 2009.

3. A person who has been found guilty of tax evasion or has committed the crime stipulated in Article 132 of Income Tax Law No. 91 of 2005.

4. A person who has been sentenced to a final sentence for committing one of the crimes stipulated in Decree-Law No. 344 of 1952 concerning the corruption of political life.

5. A person who has been sentenced a final judgment issued by the Court of Values against the confiscation of their funds.

6. A person who has been dismissed from government service, the public sector or the public business sector for committing a crime against honor or trust.

7. A person who has been sentenced to a final sentence for engaging in fraudulent activity or negligence.

8. A person who has been sentenced in a felony.

9. A person who has been given a final sentence for a penalty of deprivation of liberty due to committing an offense stipulated in Chapter 7 of the law.

10. A person who has been given a final sentence of imprisonment for committing theft, fraud, bribery, forgery, false testimony or evasion of military service.
